On March 26, 2012, film director James Cameron completed a 7-mile descent in the Deepsea Challenger to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the lowest point in the western Pacific. The expedition wound up being the deepest solo dive ever. Cameron says he plans on releasing footage as a TV special for National Geographic and as a 3D release in movie theaters - AP
