The U.S. Senate approved a $60.4 billion measure Dec. 28, 2012, to help with recovery from Superstorm Sandy, the October 2012 storm that devastated parts of New York, New Jersey and nearby states.

After delaying the vote until after the new session of Congress had begun, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on Jan. 4, 2013, to approve a partial relief bill of $9.7 billion for the National Flood Insurance Program. A vote on the remaining aid is expected on Jan. 15. - AP, NBC News
