In an interview on Aug. 19, 2012, Republican Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri told KTVI-TV in St. Louis that a woman's body could prevent pregnancy in the case of a 'legitimate rape.' The congressman, running against Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill in a Senate race, later said he 'misspoke.' The comments have drawn criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike, with many calling for him to step away from the race. On Aug. 21, while on former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's show, Akin said he intended to stay in the race. - USA Today
